Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) is set to enhance its winter travel offerings with a new route to Gran Canaria, courtesy of easyJet. Starting on 27th October 2025, this twice-weekly service will operate on Mondays and Fridays, with fares beginning at £35 one-way.
Expanding Horizons from Liverpool
As LJLA’s largest airline, easyJet continues to broaden its network from Liverpool. Over the past year, the airline has introduced nine new routes, including Split, Malta, and Marrakesh destinations. The addition of Gran Canaria caters to the growing demand for winter sun destinations among UK travellers.
Gran Canaria: A Winter Sun Haven
Gran Canaria offers diverse attractions, from sun-soaked beaches to volcanic landscapes. Adventurous travellers can explore the island’s canyons, cliffs, and calderas, while those seeking relaxation can enjoy its tranquil shores. The island’s appeal as a winter destination makes it a desirable addition to LJLA’s route offerings.
Enhanced Passenger Experience at LJLA
In anticipation of increased passenger traffic, LJLA is undergoing a £9 million renovation of its departure lounge. Set for completion by summer 2025, the project includes the introduction of Monty’s, an American-themed diner, and expanding existing facilities like The Kissing Gate Pub and Kitchen. These enhancements aim to provide a more comfortable and enjoyable experience for travellers.
Commitment to Regional Connectivity
Paul Winfield, LJLA’s Aviation Director, expressed enthusiasm about the new route, stating that it will enable more passengers from the North West to access Gran Canaria directly from Liverpool. This development addresses the regional imbalance in in-flight offerings and underscores LJLA’s commitment to enhancing connectivity for its catchment area.
Booking and Travel Details
Travellers can book flights to Gran Canaria through easyJet’s official website. For those seeking a comprehensive holiday package, easyJet holidays offers options that include flights, hotel accommodations, 23kg luggage allowance, and transfers. These packages are designed to provide flexibility and value, catering to traveller preferences.
Looking Ahead
Introducing the Gran Canaria route is part of easyJet’s broader strategy to expand its presence at LJLA. With over 640,000 seats now on sale for the Winter 2025 season, easyJet is poised to meet the diverse travel needs of passengers in the region. This growth enhances travel options and contributes to the local economy by supporting jobs and tourism.
